Risk management
The first role of a fire marshal is to take a look at your existing fire safety protocols and confirm if they are adequate for your building. As part of this assessment, they will perform a full inspection of the premises, compiling a detailed report on any potential fire risks, and making recommendations for improvement.
Fire prevention
Fire prevention is a key part of the fire marshal’s role. They will hold meetings with your management team and front-line staff, as well as the local fire department. The goal of these meetings is to get feedback on any fire-related concerns and how best to resolve them. These will form part of the overall fire safety package.
Fire warden training
Our fire marshals cover several businesses between them, so cannot be on-site at all times. To ensure the safety of your staff and customers, they will train up local fire wardens from among your employees. Their job will be to co-ordinate people leaving the building during fire drills and evacuations. They will also be given essential fire safety training, including the use of fire extinguishers and blankets.
Fire evacuation
If a fire breaks out in your building, the goal is to get everyone out safely and calmly. Your fire marshal will put together an effective fire evacuation procedure for your staff and customers alike. This will be cascaded to you team so they can familiarise themselves with the new guidance. Between them, your fire marshal and fire wardens will arrange regular drills as well.
