Following the sudden administration of a national construction firm, an existing Marpol client contacted us with an urgent request to secure four separate development sites across England. Each site posed an immediate risk of unauthorised access, asset theft, and potential confrontation with former contractors seeking to recover materials and machinery. The sites were located in Essex, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire, and Norfolk.
FRIDAY 2ND MAY
The initial enquiry was received at 11:46am, with the client urgently requiring support for all four locations.
By 1:30pm, a full quote was submitted, covering a tailored mix of services including locksmiths, manned guarding, K-9 units, CCTV monitoring, and steel security installations for windows and doors.
At 4:53pm, we received official instruction to mobilise. The requirement included manned guarding and K-9 support across all sites, to be active before nightfall.
By 9pm that evening, Marpol Security had deployed trained guards and K-9 units to each site. This rapid mobilisation proved essential: one of the sites was immediately approached by individuals armed with weapons, attempting to gain access and recover machinery. Our team contacted the police, who attended promptly and issued a crime reference number for the client. The individuals stated their intention to visit the other three sites.
In anticipation, Marpol took proactive action by contacting all local police forces responsible for the relevant areas. We supplied vehicle registration details and secured agreement for ANPR camera monitoring. Each site was effectively ‘ring-fenced’ by police, with officers prepared to attend if alerts were triggered.
That same evening, ANPR flagged one of the suspect vehicles en route to another site. Although the individuals arrived before the police, our on-site K-9 unit refused entry, despite being threatened. Police arrived shortly after, dispersed the individuals, and issued a second crime reference number.
THE FOLLOWING DAYS…
The following day, Marpol locksmiths attended each site and replaced all locks, including padlocks, euro locks, and mortice locks, to ensure total site security. Guards remained in place 24/7 over the bank holiday weekend.
The guards remained on site 24/7 over the bank holiday weekend with no real issues.
The situation remained calm until Tuesday morning, when a new group of contractors attempted to access one of the sites. Again, our guards stood firm and prevented entry.
A further incident occurred on Thursday morning involving a group attempting to reclaim scaffolding. Once more, access was refused and the site secured.
After each event, no matter the time of the evening, we were in constant communication with our client, keeping them updated. The sites eventually quietened down, so we stood down guards and replaced them with technology to continue monitoring exactly what was happening on site and to give our client peace of mind.
Throughout the entire operation, Marpol maintained constant communication with the client, regardless of the time of day or night. All incidents were swiftly managed, with security teams acting decisively and lawfully to protect assets and prevent escalation.
As tensions eased, we worked with the client to gradually stand down the manned teams and replace them with monitored security technology, providing continued oversight and peace of mind.
This coordinated, nationwide response demonstrated Marpol’s capability to react quickly, deploy effectively, and manage complex multi-site security challenges with professionalism and care.
