CCTV surveillance cameras are among the most important components of any modern security package. They allow our fully-trained control room operatives to monitor your property from our in-house, 24/7 control room. The team is then able to alert our nearby rapid response drivers in the event of a break-in or other suspicious activity..
There are two main ways of setting up such a system – a fixed CCTV network or a series of temporary CCTV towers. In this article, we’re going to take a look at the pros and cons of both methods of surveillance.
1
If you’re expecting to need CCTV surveillance at your premises for an extended period of time, then a fixed camera solution is probably the best for you—certainly the most cost-effective. For short term projects, such as groundworks, infrastructure, and construction projects, or simply to protect tools or stock temporarily, CCTV towers are a better option.
2
The main difference in cost between fixed and temporary CCTV systems is one of outlay. CCTV towers have low initial capital outlay, requiring only the initial installation costs followed by a weekly rental fee. Fixed CCTV systems require a greater outlay of capital at the start to cover design, supply, and installation of the surveillance system. However, once the system is fitted, there is little in the way of ongoing costs.
3
Both forms of CCTV surveillance are highly effective, though they use slightly different approaches. Fixed CCTV systems are running 24 hours a day, sending a continuous video feed to your on-site security team and our remote monitoring unit. CCTV towers tend to operate when a motion sensor is triggered. This is because they run on batteries, generators, or solar energy, so having them active around the clock could deplete their energy reserves.
4
Fixed CCTV systems are flexible inasmuch as we can design them to suit any building layout, eliminating possible blindspots with the careful placement of cameras and security lighting. CCTV towers are flexible in another way. Unlike fixed systems, they are mobile, carrying their own power source with them. If you need a CCTV camera in the middle of an open field, at key access points of a construction site, or along a parade route, CCTV towers offer you the flexibility to do so.
Ultimately, there is no definitive way to say that one type of CCTV is better than another. All you can really say is that one type is better in a particular set of circumstances. Here at Marpol Security, we can help you determine which is the best solution for you and your business.
