Proportion of burglaries that are resolved
A recent report in the Times shows that conviction rates for burglaries and other crimes across England and Wales have almost halved over the last six years. Statistics indicate a drop from 9.4% of cases being successfully prosecuted in 2015 to only 5% in 2022. That is a national average, with some areas having lower prosecution rates than others. In Manchester, for instance, only 3% of burglaries lead to a conviction.
Here at Marpol Security, we regularly liaise with local police forces throughout the UK – normally when they have been called out to a security incident involving one of our clients. We know how hard they work to close down incidents of crime but often the evidence is not always there. So what can you do, as a business owner or private resident, to mitigate your losses?
The answer is simple: invest in a bespoke security package that meets the specific needs of your company.
An effective deterrent
It is a fact that most property crimes – including those against businesses or private residents – are conducted by opportunists. Knowing that your place of work is under the protection of a professional security provider is often enough to make them think twice about attempting a break-in.
Here at Marpol Security, we recommend all our customers apply signage at key access points that inform would be thieves that their actions are being monitored.
Mobile patrols
All our customers in Manchester and across the UK benefit from our mobile patrol units. These highly-trained and fully-licensed security professionals cover a particular neighbourhood containing several of our clients’ buildings. They patrol the area 24 hours a day, keeping an eye out for suspect behaviour. Should they spot somebody on your grounds outside of office hours, they will immediately stop their patrol to investigate the matter. They also perform random checks on your building to make sure all doors and ground floor windows are locked and secure.
CCTV surveillance
While our mobile patrols run a tight circuit around the neighbourhood, they cannot guarantee to be within sight of your building when a break-in attempt takes place. An alternative solution is a bespoke CCTV system, designed and fitting by our team of experts. This covers your entire premises and grounds, broadcasting a live video feed to our remote monitoring unit. This team provides round-the-clock surveillance of your CCTV system. In the event of a security breach or other concerns, they will immediately instruct your local mobile patrol, who can be on-site within minutes. Even in a worst-case scenario where the thieves manage to flee the scene, our high-resolution CCTV footage can provide valuable evidence for apprehending them.
Alarm response officers and keyholders
As well as our remote monitoring team, we also offer an alarm response and keyholding service. Should your security alarm be triggered, your provider will contact our mobile patrol in the first instance, instructing them to attend the site. They will perform a full check of the building and grounds and apprehend any thieves they find on the premises. They will also arrange for locksmiths and glaziers to perform any immediate repairs before compiling a full report for you and your management team.
