As the country enters the third week of its involuntary lockdown, commercial and industrial businesses across the UK are left standing empty. For some, this is under instruction from the government. For others, it is the commercial reality of being unable to stay open in a pandemic situation. In either case, many town centres have become ghost towns.
For business owners and landlords alike, these are difficult times. Aside from the financial uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are practical concerns. With few people on the streets, commercial properties are potential targets for a range of threats. These could include:
- Robbery
- Arson
- Looting
- Vandalism
- Squatting
- Travellers
A recent report in The Sunday Times indicates that criminal gangs are taking advantage of the lockdown, resulting in a marked increase in thefts from commercial properties. These burglaries are not limited to any part of the country, with multiple break-ins reported as far afield as Manchester, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, and Glasgow in the past week.
VACANT PROPERTY CHECK
Here at Marpol Security, we are operating daily mobile patrols across the United Kingdom. Our fully-trained and licensed security personnel are instructed to inspect all clients’ buildings within their patrol area.
REPORTING PROPERTY DAMAGE
When our patrols spot evidence of damage, whether by vandals, intruders, or natural causes, they will complete an on-site Risk Assessment. This will include supporting photographs, and an estimate for emergency repair costs.
REPORTING TRESPASS
When our patrols discover evidence of Traveller or squatter occupation on a commercial site, they will take a full report, including photographic evidence. They will then arrange for Enforcement Agents to attend the scene, as they commence a Common Law Eviction.
