We are therefore delighted to announce that we have been commissioned to act as full-time security for the prestigious ‘Our Town Hall’ renovation project in Manchester.
What is the Old Town Hall project?
Set in the heart of the city, Manchester Town Hall dates back to 1877. It is a Grade 1 Listed Building and one much loved throughout the city. It has played a key role Manchester’s heritage, governance, commerce, and tourism since it was first built.
As with everything in the built environment, even a building as iconic as the town hall begins to show signs of wear and tear. The Our Town Hall project represents an opportunity to restore and improve this magnificent architectural wonder, saving it from further deterioration, and preserving it for another 100+ years of use by our community.
The importance of
Manchester Town Hall
As any resident of the city will tell you, the town hall is a key part of Manchester’s historic architecture. Architectural historian Clare Hartwell described it as “one of the finest interpretations of Gothic revival architecture in the world.” Renowned historian and BBC presenter, Dan Cruickshank, described it as “arguably the greatest Gothic Revival public building anywhere in the world… functionally organised yet rich in inventive Gothic detail.”
Manchester Town Hall is licensed for weddings and civil partnerships and has seen thousands of couples start their new lives together.
It has played a part in our nation’s political history, being the venue chosen to announce the official result of the 2016 EU Referendum.
The town hall is even a star of cinema and television! It has appeared in The State of Play for BBC Television, as well as in the films Sherlock Holmes (2008), The Iron Lady (2011), Victor Frankenstein (2014), and many more.
The role of Marpol Security in the Our Town Hall project
We have been instructed to provide security on this huge refurbishment project for the entirety of this venture. Our team of fully-trained and experienced security professionals will be providing manned security in and around the building on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week. We are proud to be able to play our part in the restoration and refurbishment of this Manchester landmark.
